Understanding the molecular genetic mechanisms underlying biodiversity is presently an issue of high priority. However, not much is known about how biodiversity initially emerges in evolution. Evolutionary developmental genetics currently promises better answers to this enigmatic question, but details of how genes link development to evolution have remained scarce.
