The Aslian languages are spoken by indigenous minorities in Peninsular Malaysia. This project will document two of these languages, Semoq Beri and Batek, with a focus on language contact. The lanuages and cultures of Aslian speaking communities are highly endangered. Government programmes are aimed at integrating indigenous minorities into mainstream society. Dislocation of the communities from their traditional environment and lifestyle, and increasing dominance of the Malay language is accelerating the demise of these languages and cultures.
