The highly diverse and endemic amphibians and reptiles of Madagascar are suitable indicators to determine conservation priorities within Madagascar and constitute an important economic resource for the country (e.g. pharmacologically or with regard to pet trade). However, many taxa are threatened with extinction because of a small distribution area, habitat destruction, overcollecting, climate change and through fungal disease.
