LmrA, an integral membrane protein from Lactococcus lactis, is a member of the large family of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters actively transporting a large spectrum of structurally non-related, hydrophobic compounds out of the cell. The aim of the project is to characterize the interaction of LmrA with its substrates and inhibitors on a molecular level and to analyze the conformational changes which catalyze transport, the number and architecture of the binding site(s) and the interplay between conformation and biological function.
