Symbiotic interactions are of great evolutionary and ecological importance for any organism. Female beewolves (solitary digger wasps of the genus Philanthus, Hymenoptera: Crabronidae) cultivate bacteria of the recently described species 'Candidates Streptomyces philanthi' in unique antennal gland reservoirs and deliver them into the brood cell. The larva transfers the bacteria to its cocoon, where they provide protection against fungal infestation.
