Zusammenfassung

Molecular studies on the Eurasian beaver, Castor fiber, revealed a remarkable genetic structure of recent populations. Thus, deeper knowledge about the causative evolutionary processes is needed to understand how this phylogeographic pattern evolved. For the first time, analyses of both, ancient and modern DNA of the Eurasian beaver will provide essential knowledge about long term population dynamics. By analysing fossil remains of extinct populations, the genetic history of the beaver will be traced throughout the past of many thousands of years. It is planned to address the following...
