The Out-of-Africa Model of Human Evolution finds the origins of modern humans in East Africa. During their spread across the globe during the last 100,000 years, human populations were exposed to new environments, unfamiliar diets and different diseases. From an evolutionary point of view this implies that local natural selection likely has contributed substantially to the present distribution of human genetic diversity.
