In microsystems applications, the cutting processes using microtools (drills, end mills) are in direct competition with Laser- or electron beam-based technologies as well as with micro EDM-processes (EDM = electro discharge machining). Still microdrilling is a very competitive solution to manufacture microbores, especially for sensitive materials.
