Zusammenfassung
With this PhD fellowship mechanisms of adaptive (sympatric) speciation will be studied in a population of fire salamanders in a confined forest area near Bonn. Previous genetically and ecologically based studies have shown that the fire salamanders in this area have differentiated into two different genetic clusters due to ecological adaptation. One type prefers streams as larval habitats, whereas the other reproduces in ponds.
