This project is intended to study the evolution of codon preferences in horizontally transferred genes, the importance of codon usage as both cause and effect of molecular evolution of coding sequences, and how evolutionary pressures drive new acquired genes towards either optimal adaptation or towards loss. It is a multidisciplmary evolutionary project that combines experimental molecular biology with in silico biomformatics.
