The study of speciation mechanisms remains one of the major challenges in fundamental biological research. With the advent of the genomic era it has become possible to study the genetic underpinnings of reproductive isolation (RI). Hybrid zones are ideal systems to unveil the barriers that keep gene pools from merging.
