Adaptation underlies much evolutionary diversity. Yet, we know little about the genetic architecture underlying adaptation, because studying the adaptive process often means the statistical detection of historical events under largely unknown conditions. But for traits evolving repeatedly that can be replicated in the laboratory, its genetic architecture becomes readily tractable.
