It is planned to combine genetic (mtDNA and nucDNA) data and demographic data (infestation rates) to compare the local and macro-geographic population structures of two blood-feeding ecto-parasites, the wing mite Spinturnix bechsteini and the bat fly Basilia nana, to that of their host, the Bechstein's bat (Myotis bechsteinii). Wing mites and bat flies differ in the transmission mode (exclusively transmitted by body contact versus partially transmitted via the communal bat roost).
