In philosophy, it is generally assumed that the self is the author of it's own thoughts. This position is challenged by the psychopathological phenomenon of thought insertion, one of the symptoms of schizophrenia. This project aims at a systematic investigation of authorship and control of thoughts in the phenomenon of thought insertion in schizophrenia in contrast to related psychiatric disorders of thought processing and thought control such as intrusive thoughts in patients suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder.
