Substance use disorders are among the top group of mental disorders in Europe. The health and social costs are high and there is a high need for research in all fields. From 2008 to 2010 a first pilot trial for an innovative organisational concept and curriculum for the education of PhD and MD students with a focus on addiction was developed.
