The Kabardian horse is an old breed developed in tradition and requirements of Northern Caucasia. It is well known for strength, stamina, and endurance in distance riding. After the political changes in the Soviet Union, this breed collapsed. But now it enjoys a revival as a horse with character for working and leisure time as well as cultural heritage. At present, modern breeding strategies and molecular genetic analysis can help to prevent a decline, to consolidate and to improve this population.
