A negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond is a solid state system, that can be used as an atomic-sized sensing probe for magnetic and electric fields by optical read-out. The project aims at developing a versatile tool to detect and image small magnetic and electric fields emanating from small molecular compounds to complex united cell structures.
