Zusammenfassung
The locomotion of microorganisms in a fluid - such as E. coli bacteria, which are propelled by bundles composed of several helical flagella - is studied by mesoscale hydrodynamic simulations. The project aims at a detailed understanding of the swimming pattern of these bacteria, in particular, the cooperative behavior of several flagella and its role in directed motion and tumbling.
