Osteoporosis and major depressive disorder are diseases affecting hundreds of millions of individuals worldwide. Numerous epidemiological studies have demonstrated that depression is significantly associated with low bone mass. Hence, most authorities consider depression to be a risk factor for osteoporosis. This research proposal takes a point of view that represents the exact opposite to current thinking, namely, that depression is secondary to osteoporosis.
