Most orthodox research using imaging of the living human brain highlights the neural correlates of a specific phenotype; this project turns this concept on its head by recursively applying the data acquired through neuroimaging as the phenotype to probe topdown processes. Meditation and hypnosis demonstrate how atypical brain states can mold subjective conscious experience. But is it possible to combine brain imaging with advanced neurofeedback methods to guide a naïve participant to rapidly adopt brain activations similar to those of an expert meditator?
