There is widespread consensus that Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the most important religious voices of the twentieth century. He developed that voice, in part, through a sustained conversation with Martin Luther. Despite Bonhoeffer's lifelong engagement with Luther's work, there has been no scholarly monograph dedicated to his intellectual relationship to Luther.
