The motility and invasiveness of cells have a high impact on both physiological and pathological processes. Here, specialized membrane structures called podosomes and invadopodia play a key role which are characterized by their extracellular matrix (ECM) degrading properties. In this joint project an optical biosensor which can quantitatively detect ECM degradation of living cells in real-time using standard transmission microscopy will be developed.
