Weight reduction is an important approach for the car industry to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emission. The proposed idea intends to investigate the possibility of producing a motor made from plastic or glass/carbon fiber reinforced plastic. The challenge is, to generate a combination of wear and corrosion resistant layers with cooling structures as well as a thermal barrier coating and mount them into a plastic motor block, which must bear the dynamic forces of a running engine.
