Zusammenfassung

Can we improve neuroprosthetics beyond the low resolution and unspecific mechanism of electrical neurostimulation? We will evaluate the prospects for functional neurostimulation by exogenous release of neurotransmitter through an array of nanofluidic "artificial synapses". Such technology could overcome the present limits of electrical retinal implants, and could enable improved methods of deep brain stimulation by specifically addressing the chemical signaling pathways of neurological disorders.
