Zusammenfassung
Can we build the analog of a LASER for sound in polymeric or other non-crystalline solids? The result would be that the uncorrelated motion of atoms known as heat could at least partly be converted to coherent vibrations known as ultra- or hypersound waves. We expect substantial impact of this research on the understanding of phonons and on applications such as costeffective heat management on the nanoscale.
