Zusammenfassung

Detection and encoding of mechanical stimuli in sensory system is still a largely unknown process, despite its relevance for health and disease. To provide a new concept for studying mechanotransduction, the applicants have envisioned a bioreactor combining microfluidics, microelectrode arrays and nanomagnetic actuation of sensory terminals. Such novel platform will enhance pain research and development of novel analgesics by substantially increasing the throughput and the predictability of in vitro experiments which specifically address mechanotransduction in sensory neurons.
