Active photolocation in animals? Remote sensing based on ocular light emission
Projektnummer
0058408
Zusammenfassung
Eyes not only perceive, but also emit light. It is hypothesized that fish have developed this phenomenon into a photon radar system, which uses light to actively induce and detect reflections in prey, just as sound does in echolocation. Proving that active photolocation exists will add a new dimension to our understanding of eye evolution.
