This research project addresses Conceptual art in the U.S. and Western Europe from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. The main objectives of this movement are generally described as two-fold: To question the status of the art object and its materiality, a phenomenon Lucy R. Lippard described as "dematerialization", and to systematically examine the nature of art, as it was done most distinctly by Joseph Kosuth and the members of the group Art & Language.
