Eukaryotic cells are highly compartmentalized by membrane-engulfed organelles with distinct identities and specific duties. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi apparatus (GA) are the most prominent hubs for protein sorting and posttranslational modifications. The project aims at showing the feasibility of de novo organelle formation in a test tube and at elucidating self-organization principles in this process.
