The projects intends to build new understanding on the role of local markets and the informal circulation of traders and goods across the Caucasus and Central Asia; field research in neighboring northern Pakistan, and the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region (XUAR) in western China shall provide a comparative perspective from within the region.
