The project involving anthropologists, political scientists and historians from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Germany aims to produce a social and environmental history of the Naryn and Syr Darya river, from the mid-20th century to the present day. The team will work with archival documents, oral histories, ethnographic fieldwork and visual materials and is guided by three core research questions: how was the river perceived in past and present?
