In in the 1970s, in both West Germany and the US, "middle-managers" became an object of intense scientific and political dispute. They were "discovered" by intellectuals, politicians, social scientists and management experts and "made" by the lobby organizations and representatives campaigning for their interests, particularly through social distinction against the "normal" workforce.
