Zusammenfassung
This project looks at the iconography of St. Luke painting the Virgin in late sixteenth-century Central Italy and the emerging notion of the artist as visionary. In the second half of the 16th Century, the early version of the legend of St. Luke as a portrait sitting transformed into an account of the St. Luke icon made in the prototype's absence - that is, as the product of an artistic vision.
