Starting as an ambitious pursuit of bridging cultural boundaries, the Chinese study of world history has produced a powerful critique of ethnic biases in historical studies and offered meaningful alternative views of the world. However, despite its century long legacy, a great number of historians still considers world history as a subject that is both "foreign and irrelevant" in China today.
