Zusammenfassung

The human trachea is covered by a thin two-layered film, the so called airway surface liquid. This liquid film captures and transports dust particles and bacteria out of the lung. Disorders of this self-cleaning mechanism in the trachea and bronchial tree lead to life-shortening diseases such as cystic fibrosis. The proposed project idea intends to design and test an artificial trachea model. The challenge is to create a uniform, permanent liquid film flow on the duct surface that is able to overcome gravity and airflow shearing forces without obstructing the airways. For this, a new a...
