No biological therapy is capable of healing or preventing osteoarthritis. Given that changes in cellular shape generally regulate cell growth and physiology, and that, in turn, cell shape can be used to control the direction of progenitor cell differentiation, it is hypothesized that changes in chondrocyte shape observed in early osteoarthritis are not a disease symptom but rather a causative co-factor.
