The professorship aims at establishing an innovative empiricalresearch program for the study of social movements, domestic politicalconflict, and its consequences for representation in contemporarydemocracies. The new idea is to systematically linking the study ofsocial movements and protest politics to research on cleavage politicsand the restructuration of conflict.
