Zusammenfassung
Mucosal surfaces are the main place of entry for microbial pathogens and a major intrusion site for air- and food-borne allergens. Mucosae are protected to a large extent by antibodies that are secreted onto the surface of the mucosa where they coagulate their cognate antigen and/or link it to mucus via the secretory component present in the secreted complex. Unfortunately such secretory antibodies that consist of polymeric IgA in complex with secretory component cannot be induced by conventional vaccination regimens.
