Higher animals like primates and corvids can be trained to solve complex causal tasks that can involve tool use and several causally linked sub-goals. In contrast, robots are currently unable to solve such causal puzzles. There is a controversial discussion about whether problem-solving in animals is due to the acquisition of causal insight and imagination or due to a more direct reward system.
