Energy production based on thermal sources needs large temperature differences and high temperatures. In contrast, process water with temperatures below 100 degree Celsius can only be used for heating purposes or even worse has to be cooled by cooling towers. The idea is to utilize shape memory materials to transform this lost thermal energy into mechanical energy, which can either be used directly or easily be transformed into electrical energy.
