The project researches the thematization and representation of jazz in German-language literature from Weimar Republic to the post-war period. The guiding premise is that analyzing the intermedial relation between literature and jazz can only be done appropriately by recognizing this relation as a mutual transatlantic cultural exchange. The exchange exists between both German and US-American jazz, and the two countries' literatures respectively.
