Living things often show spontaneous and innate behaviours, which enable them to optimize their chances of survival. These behaviours often show stochastic features and are independent of external stimuli. While this is a pervasive characteristic of living organisms, relatively little is known about the underlying mechanisms. In this project the researchers aim to investigate the neural network dynamics in the brain of a simple vertebrate, the zebrafish larva, while it freely explores its environment.
