4D printing, which is based on spontaneous shape-transformation (self-folding) of complex flat structures (sheets), is a highly promising strategy for microfabrication. It offers unique possibilities for the fabrication of hollow 3D micro-objects, which cannot be achieved using other microfabrication technologies. One of the key practical challenges is the fabrication of vascular networks.
