In their initial project the investigators have shown that ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) is suitable for the production of highly stressed mechanical machine components such as gear wheels and roller bearings. One advantage of this new material is that new properties arise which are not possible with conventional materials like steel. For example, UHPC is suitable for light, non-corrosive and non-conductive gear wheels, as needed for maritime applications.
