Image formation in the human visual system is a complicated process that relies on various semi-conscious and unconscious eye movements (saccades, smooth pursuit, drift etc.) and complex response dynamics of rods and cones. The authors hypothesize that it is possible to exploit the biology of vision and induce arbitrary visual impressions in the brain via a dynamical interactive process based on accurate eye tracking and fast high-resolution pattern generation, with or without ever displaying the true image.
