Plants are special living organisms in the sense that they cannot run-away to escape adverse situations and therefore have developed sophisticated adjusting strategies. For instance, when homeostasis is disturbed, upon adverse changes in their environment, plants react by reprograming their transcriptome, metabolome and resource allocation to restore the balance. In order to survive and reproduce, plants need both, to grow and to defend. But how do plants decide for the one and/or the other is unknown.
