Research in African contexts has shown an underutilized potential of Organic Municipal Solid Waste (OMSW) which could be valorized by composting. For Côte d'Ivoire, pilot initiatives (2015-2019) in Tiassalé (Volkswagen Foundation senior fellowship funds) have shown the feasibility and beneficiaries' acceptance of source-separated biowaste composting, that OMSW collection from households is possible, that the OMSW quality is suitable for composting, and that generation of hygienized compost is possible in pilot scale.
