The central and very fundamental question of this project is whether a new form of life can be created? Modification of bacteria and yeast to produce the desired chemicals is standard, while establishing a co-culture between different species is often referred to as the current hot topic. This project proposes to go one step further by creating a new organism, i.e. to unite two different species in one single cell.
