Queer cultures make one of the largest gaps in our uneven knowledgeabout the past due to a long and often continued criminalization andpathologization of LGBT+ expression across the globe. "Light On! QueerLiteratures and Cultures under Socialism" emerges from such silencesin the formerly socialist East-Central part of Europe and theiralarming abuse by the growing right-wing populist movements, whichover the past decade have justified introducing anti-LGBT+ laws andinitiatives from Russia to Poland and beyond by the protection ofrespective nations from "non-traditional values."
