Infected plants release chemosensory signals that prime the defense systems of neighboring plants and thus restrict pathogen spread throughout a community. Although it is well established that mammals exhibit an altered perceivable state during infection, such changes are considered a mere consequence of infection rather than active signaling between uninfected and infected individuals.
